 Visas and Employment Restrictions
For those foreign residents with "Work Visas" or "Spouse Visas," there are almost no restrictions concerning finding employment. To be able to work while holding a different visa status, such as part-time work for foreign exchange students, a "Work Permit" is required. Generally, job-hunting is done through public employment agencies. Employment agencies also offer consultation services concerning job hunting and part-time employment.

Concerning Trouble Related to Working Conditions
Labor-related laws, such as the Labor Standards Law, Minimum Wages Law, Industrial Safety and Health Law, and Worker's Accident Compensation Insurance Law, apply to foreign residents working in Japan as well.
If any of the following conditions apply to you, please consult your local
Advisor for Foreign Workers Section or Labour Standards Inspection Office.
Examples:
- Your employer fails to pay your due wages.
- Your employer fails to pay for overtime work.
- You are fired from work while recuperating from injuries incurred during work.
- You are suddenly fired and are not paid in lieu of a notice.
- You are not compensated for medical expenses or days off from work even though you are a work casualty.
- Your work conditions, such as wages and work hours, are not clearly defined when finalizing a labor contract.
- There is a danger of your becoming a labor casualty because the safety and sanitary conditions of your workplace are less than sufficient.
