	National Health Insurance

"I would like to enroll in the National Health Insurance plan." Kokumin kenko hoken ni kanyu shitai no desuga.

Enrollment Qualifications

Any person registered as a foreign resident in Kawaguchi City , but not enrolled in any health insurance plan, and whose authorized period of stay is more than one year is eligible for the National Health Insurance program. Residents with "Diplomat," "Official," "Temporary Visitor" status, or whose visas have expired, are not eligible.

Health Insurance Card

After enrollment, a National Health Insurance card will be sent to your mailing address. Make sure your residence has a mailbox installed. Report any changes in name, address, etc., within 14 days of the change. If you leave Japan or move out of Kawaguchi City , return the insurance certificate to City Hall.

Insurance Premiums

After enrolling, you will receive a payment form. Please pay the premium at any of the financial institutions (bank, credit association [Shinyo kinko], etc.) listed on the payment form.

Payment of Benefits

If you receive medical treatment for an illness or injury at a medical facility covered by the health insurance program, Kawaguchi City will pay 70-90% of the medical cost. A maternity allowance is paid upon the birth of a child. In case of a pregnancy of 12 weeks (85 days) or more, the allowance is also provided for those who had a stillbirth or miscarriage. Furthermore, upon the death of the insured, an allowance is paid for funeral expenses.

If there is a Social Insurance plan where you are employed, you should enroll in your company insurance plan. .
